Does the ACC really need two more schools now?
Isn't the ACC the largest P-5 conference at 14.5?
If the ACC releases ND football from the 5-game deal, ND's non-revenue sports should depart too. The football deal is the reason the ACC allowed them to park their non-revenue sports in the conference. I think it's beneficial to the ACC to get 5 football games with ND, but their non-revenues don't bring anything special to the ACC. They are just another member.
I also feel ND will have a much more difficult time getting into the football playoff based on their past performances. This past year they were blown out in the ACC Championship game, then blown out again in the playoff game. Seem to recall they were also blown out the last time they qualified for the pIay off. Trust me, the SEC wants two teams in the playoff every year.
I'm not sure an independent, even an undefeated independent, will get preferential treatment over a 1-loss conference champion, and they may find it difficult getting in over a 2-loss P5 conference champion. Now if the playoff expands to 8 teams, ND will have much easier access to the playoff.
Sorry, but releasing ND from it's football obligation is a "non-starter." If that happens, they're getting their "walking papers" across every sport. Book it!
